Choosing Kwikset Door Hardware

Kwikset hardware covers several different door functions, so start with how the door needs to operate. Keyed entry knobs and levers control access through the latch, passage hardware latches without locking, privacy hardware provides interior privacy locking, dummy trim is fixed, and deadbolts provide a separate locking bolt above or apart from the operating lock.

Entry doors can use a single deadbolt, a knob or lever paired with a deadbolt, a decorative handleset, or an electronic lock. Interior doors commonly use passage, privacy, or dummy functions. The right category depends on the door use before style or finish is considered.

Mechanical fit includes backset, cross-bore and edge-bore preparation, door thickness, latch or bolt faceplate, strike, trim dimensions, and handing on selected lever or handleset configurations. Replacement hardware should be matched to the existing door preparation whenever possible.

Kwikset SmartKey Security is available on selected keyed products and allows compatible cylinders to be re-keyed using Kwikset's specified procedure. Electronic products may add keypad, touchscreen, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Z-Wave, fingerprint, or other features depending on the exact model. Confirm SmartKey and connected features at the product level.

After function and fit are established, compare trim family and finish across handlesets, deadbolts, knobs, and levers. Product-specific templates and specifications are the best reference for installation and replacement work.
