How to Choose Appliance Pulls

Appliance pulls are designed for larger doors and panels where a standard cabinet pull may be too small for the scale or repeated use of the opening. They are commonly used on panel-ready refrigerators and dishwashers, tall pantry doors, integrated appliance panels, and oversized cabinet doors. The best starting point is the center-to-center measurement between the mounting screws.

Center-to-center size is not the same as overall pull length. A 12-inch center-to-center appliance pull will extend beyond the mounting points, and the amount varies by design. If you are replacing an existing pull without drilling new holes, measure from the center of one mounting screw to the center of the other. For a new panel, use the manufacturer dimensions to confirm both hole spacing and overall size.

Projection matters on appliance panels because the pull needs enough clearance for a comfortable grip without interfering with nearby cabinets, walls, adjacent appliance handles, or opposing doors. Review projection and overall depth along with the appliance manufacturer's clearance requirements, especially on side-by-side panels or compact kitchen layouts.

Finish and style can be coordinated with cabinet knobs and pulls, faucets, lighting, or appliance finishes, but matching function comes first. Longer pulls place more leverage on the mounting points, so use the specified fasteners and confirm the panel construction and thickness can support the hardware. Some installations may require different screw lengths from those used on standard cabinet doors.

For a coordinated kitchen, look for appliance pulls that relate to the smaller cabinet pulls or knobs used throughout the room. Matching the finish and design family can create a consistent appearance while allowing the larger appliance hardware to remain proportional to refrigerator, freezer, dishwasher, and pantry panels.
