Mortise Lock Bodies and Replacement Parts for Mortise-Prepped Doors

Mortise lock bodies are installed within a pocket cut into the edge of the door rather than through the cylindrical bore used for many tubular and cylindrical locksets. The lock case contains the operating mechanism for the latchbolt, deadbolt, lever or knob action, and locking function according to the specific design. Our broader mortise locks collection includes complete mortise lock assemblies and related configurations, while this collection has a stronger focus on lock bodies and replacement components.

Mortise lock bodies are produced for a wide range of functions. Entry and apartment locks provide keyed access, passage locks provide non-locking latch operation, and privacy functions are used where interior locking is required. Commercial mortise families can also include office, classroom, storeroom, corridor, dormitory, hotel, institutional, exit, and other specialized functions. The internal lock case can differ substantially between these functions even when the visible lever, knob, rose, or escutcheon appears similar.

Replacement mortise lock hardware extends beyond the lock case itself. Depending on the manufacturer and lock series, related components can include mortise cylinders, latch assemblies, deadbolts, faceplates, strikes, roses, spindles, lever trim, turn knobs, mounting hardware, and other repair parts. These components are generally designed around a particular lock family, door preparation, and operating function rather than as universal replacements.

Commercial systems account for a significant portion of mortise lock hardware because the mortise format supports numerous architectural lock functions and replaceable components. Commercial mortise locks include complete and configured products for office, institutional, commercial-entry, hospitality, and other higher-use openings. Electrified mortise functions can also provide fail-safe, fail-secure, or other electrically controlled operation depending on the specific lock design.

Across mortise lock bodies and replacement parts, important differences include lock-case dimensions, handing, backset, latch and deadbolt configuration, faceplate dimensions, cylinder preparation, spindle and trim arrangement, door thickness, electrical function, and manufacturer series. Matching those characteristics keeps replacement hardware aligned with the existing mortise preparation and the components used on each side of the door.
