Choosing an Ives Door Stop

Door stops protect doors, walls, trim, and adjacent hardware by limiting how far a door can open. Ives offers several mounting styles, and the best choice depends on where solid mounting is available and where the stop can contact the door without causing damage. Floor, wall, baseboard, and hinge-mounted designs each solve the same basic problem in different ways.

Floor stops can work well where the floor provides a secure mounting point and the stop can be positioned outside normal walking paths. Wall and baseboard stops use the wall or trim behind the door, while hinge-pin stops avoid drilling those surfaces but must be compatible with the hinge and appropriate for the door weight and use.

Some Ives products combine stopping with a hold-open function. Holders intentionally retain the door in an open position, which is different from a stop that only limits travel. Confirm the intended function before ordering, especially on fire-rated doors or other openings where a mechanical hold-open feature may be restricted.

Compare projection, overall dimensions, bumper material, mounting-base size, fastener type, adjustment range, and door-to-floor clearance where applicable. For replacement work, matching the existing footprint and mounting holes can reduce repair to the surrounding surface.

After mounting and function are established, select material and finish to coordinate with nearby hinges, locks, pulls, and other architectural hardware. Follow the manufacturer's installation instructions so the stop contacts the intended portion of the door and does not create excessive leverage on hinges or trim.
