Choosing an Ives Wall Door Stop

Wall stops work well when there is a solid wall surface behind the door and floor mounting is undesirable. Rigid projection stops extend from the wall to meet the door, while concave or convex bumpers provide a lower-profile contact surface. The mounting location should keep the knob, lever, or door edge from reaching the wall.

Projection and contact point should be checked before installation. A stop that is too short will not protect the wall, while an overly long stop can project unnecessarily into the room. Place the bumper against a sturdy area of the door rather than fragile trim or glass.

Ives offers wall-mounted products for different substrates, including drywall and masonry conditions. Fasteners and anchors must suit both the hardware and the wall construction. Heavy-duty stops and holders may require more substantial backing than a simple bumper.

Some wall products intentionally hold the door open. Manual hooks and automatic holders perform a different function from a basic stop and may be inappropriate on certain fire-rated or regulated openings. Verify the complete opening requirements when hold-open operation is involved.

After mounting and function are established, compare material and finish with nearby door hardware. For replacement work, matching the existing base diameter and hole pattern can minimize wall repair.
