Choosing an Ives Floor Door Stop

Floor stops are useful when the floor provides a solid mounting point and wall or baseboard mounting is impractical. The stop should be positioned so the bumper or strike contacts a durable area of the door while keeping the hardware out of normal walking paths as much as possible.

Check overall height, base diameter, projection, and the door-to-floor clearance required by the model. Low-profile stops can suit doors with limited clearance, while taller stops and security styles use different contact geometry. Product drawings are the best guide for placement.

Some Ives floor products add a hold-open function. Manual hook styles and automatic holders intentionally retain the door in an open position, while a standard floor stop only limits travel. This distinction is important on fire-rated or other regulated openings where hold-open hardware may be restricted.

Mounting requirements vary with wood, concrete, tile, stone, and other floor materials. Use fasteners and anchors appropriate to both the stop and the substrate, and confirm that drilling will not affect utilities, radiant systems, or other concealed conditions.

After location and mounting are established, choose a material and finish that coordinate with the rest of the door hardware. For replacement work, matching the existing footprint can reduce visible floor repair.
