Door Hardware Key Codes

Factory Direct Hardware offers free regular keying on eligible door hardware orders. When placing a new order, keyed products can be keyed alike by selecting the Keyed Alike option on each eligible item. For keyed alike orders without an existing key code, the order will be keyed to a random key code.

Matching an Existing Key

If you are replacing a lock and want the new lockset to match a key you already have, the new lock must use a compatible cylinder from the same manufacturer or keyway family. A Kwikset key, for example, will not work in a Schlage lock. To match an existing key, the key code must be provided with the order when available.

Where to Find Key Codes

Key codes are commonly stamped on the side or bow of the original key supplied with the lock. Some brands do not stamp the key code directly on the key. When the code is not visible, the key may need to be measured with a key gauge or identified by a locksmith.

Random Key Code

If the key code cannot be provided, the lock can still be keyed to a random key code. In that case, the new lock will include working keys, but it will not match the existing key.

Free regular keying does not include master keying or builders keying. Those services may be available for an additional charge.
