The exterior side combines decorative handleset trim or a pull grip with the deadbolt, while the interior side uses compatible knob or lever trim and a keyed cylinder rather than a thumbturn for deadbolt operation. The double-cylinder configuration is the defining feature and should be evaluated before style. Requiring a key on the interior side can reduce unauthorized operation through nearby glass in some situations, but it can also delay or prevent emergency exit if the key is not immediately available.
