Double cylinder handlesets are entry-door hardware sets that use a keyed deadbolt cylinder on both sides of the door. The exterior side combines decorative handleset trim or a pull grip with the deadbolt, while the interior side uses compatible knob or lever trim and a keyed cylinder rather than a thumbturn for deadbolt operation. The active assortment includes several traditional and contemporary trim combinations.

The double-cylinder configuration is the defining feature and should be evaluated before style. Requiring a key on the interior side can reduce unauthorized operation through nearby glass in some situations, but it can also delay or prevent emergency exit if the key is not immediately available. Many building, fire, rental, and life-safety rules restrict or prohibit key-required egress hardware on certain doors. Confirm the requirements that apply to the specific opening before purchasing or installing a double cylinder handleset.

Fit depends on the door preparation and handleset mounting pattern. Compare backset, cross-bore and edge-bore dimensions, door thickness, deadbolt and latch preparation, strike, exterior grip mounting centers or lower through-bolt location, and any adjustable mounting range. Replacement projects should be measured carefully because the lower mounting point can vary between handleset designs.

Interior trim can use a knob or lever, and some lever styles are handed. Determine left-hand or right-hand requirements using the manufacturer's instructions before ordering a handed model. Also review cylinder and keyway details if the handleset needs to coordinate with other keyed locks at the property.
