Choosing Linear Cabinet Lighting

Linear cabinet fixtures are designed to spread light across counters, shelves, display areas, and other work surfaces while keeping the fixture profile relatively compact. They are commonly installed beneath kitchen wall cabinets, inside built-ins, along shelves, in bars, offices, closets, laundry areas, and other places where focused task or accent lighting is useful.

Fixture length should be selected around the available cabinet space and the area that needs illumination. A longer fixture can provide broader coverage, while multiple shorter fixtures may be useful where cabinet divisions or obstacles interrupt a run. Flat and angled profiles change the direction of the light and can help position output toward the front or center of a work surface.

Voltage is a system requirement, not an interchangeable preference. Match 12-volt fixtures with compatible 12-volt power components and 24-volt fixtures with compatible 24-volt components. Also confirm the total load, driver or power-supply capacity, connectors, switches, dimmers, and other controls required by the specific lighting family.

Compare lumen output and color temperature when coordinating fixtures across a room or cabinet run. For a new system, plan the fixtures, power source, controls, connecting components, and wiring path together. For a replacement, identify the existing series and electrical specifications before substituting a new fixture.
