Kwikset Double Cylinder Deadbolts

Kwikset double-cylinder deadbolts use keyed cylinders on both the exterior and interior sides of the door. The active assortment includes traditional round and contemporary square trim, with selected SmartKey-compatible models and other keyed-both-sides Kwikset deadbolt configurations.

Compare backset, door thickness, bolt and strike preparation, trim dimensions, cylinder and keyway, SmartKey compatibility where offered, and finish. Because interior operation requires a key, double-cylinder deadbolts can affect emergency egress and may be restricted on certain openings.

Choosing a Kwikset Double Cylinder Deadbolt

Double-cylinder deadbolts require a key to retract or extend the bolt from either side of the door. They differ from single-cylinder deadbolts, which use a thumbturn on the interior. The keyed-both-sides design should be selected only where that operating method is appropriate for the opening.

Interior keyed operation can restrict emergency egress if a key is not immediately available. Building, fire, or life-safety requirements may restrict or prohibit double-cylinder deadbolts on certain doors. Confirm the requirements that apply to the opening before choosing or installing this lock type.

For fit, check backset, cross-bore and edge-bore preparation, door thickness, bolt faceplate or drive-in configuration, strike, and trim dimensions. Replacement work should be matched to the existing door preparation so the bolt aligns properly with the frame.

Selected Kwikset double-cylinder models use SmartKey Security, while others may use a different cylinder format. Confirm the keyway, SmartKey compatibility, and keying requirements if the deadbolt must coordinate with other locks at the property.

After operation and fit are confirmed, compare round or square trim and finish with nearby knobs, levers, handlesets, hinges, and other entry hardware.
