Choosing a Keyless Entry Door Lever

Keyless lever locks provide code-based or electronic access while retaining the familiar operation of a lever. Residential models are commonly used on exterior entries, garage-entry doors, home offices, and utility spaces, while commercial electronic cylindrical and mortise levers can serve offices, storage areas, service doors, and other managed openings.

Identify the lock construction before comparing electronic features. Cylindrical and tubular lever locks use different door preparations from mortise locks, and commercial locks may require larger chassis, through-bolts, specific strikes, or additional door and frame preparation. Confirm backset, door thickness, handing, latch or mortise case, and trim dimensions for the exact model.

Access management can range from simple stand-alone keypad codes to programmable commercial credentials and connected electronic systems. Review the number and type of credentials supported, programming method, key override, lock function, audit or scheduling capability where provided, and any network or controller requirements.

Electronic models also differ in battery type, low-battery indication, emergency access, and power requirements. Mechanical pushbutton lever locks operate differently and may require no batteries. Match the access technology to the needs of the opening rather than selecting by keypad appearance alone.

For fire-rated, egress, accessibility-related, or other regulated openings, verify the complete lock and door assembly requirements. Confirm that the selected lever function, free-egress operation, listing, latch, strike, and electronic behavior are appropriate for the intended application.
