Dutch Door Bolts

Dutch door bolts are used to secure or connect the upper and lower sections of split Dutch doors. This collection includes surface-mounted Dutch door bolts and related quadrant hardware from brands such as Deltana, Emtek, Ives, and Don-Jo for residential entries, utility doors, and other split-door applications.

Before ordering, compare the bolt or quadrant style, overall dimensions, bolt throw, mounting location, keeper or strike arrangement, door thickness and construction, and finish. Replacement hardware should be matched to the existing door preparation whenever possible.

Choosing Hardware for a Dutch Door

A Dutch door is divided horizontally so the upper and lower sections can operate independently. Dutch door bolts are commonly used to connect or secure the two sections when the door needs to function as a single unit. Depending on the hardware design, the bolt may be surface mounted to one section of the door and engage a keeper or strike on the other section.

Start by identifying the type of hardware already used on the opening. Surface bolts are offered in different lengths, widths, bolt throws, and mounting patterns. Dutch door quadrants use a different connecting arrangement and should be selected according to their intended installation rather than treated as interchangeable with a conventional slide or surface bolt.

For replacement work, measure the existing hardware and mounting points before ordering. Compare overall body dimensions, bolt projection or throw, screw locations, keeper or strike size, the spacing between the upper and lower door sections, and any existing recesses or surface marks. Matching the existing preparation can reduce the amount of drilling or patching needed on the door.

Door construction also matters. Wood, metal, and other door materials can require different fasteners or preparation, and the mounting surface must be suitable for the selected hardware. Confirm the manufacturer's installation requirements and make sure the bolt or quadrant can operate freely without binding as the two sections of the door are opened, closed, or connected.

After fit and operation are confirmed, choose a finish that coordinates with the hinges, lockset, handleset, and other visible door hardware. For exterior or security-sensitive openings, review the complete door configuration and any applicable requirements rather than relying on the Dutch door bolt as the only locking or security component.
