Door Latches

Door latches are the spring- or bolt-operated mechanisms installed in the edge of a door that engage the strike when the door closes. This collection includes replacement latches for door knobs, levers, locksets, and deadbolts, including passage, privacy, keyed-entry, deadlatch, spring-latch, and deadbolt-latch configurations. Available formats include adjustable and fixed backsets, drive-in latches, square-corner and radius-corner faceplates, and residential or commercial replacement components. Compatibility varies by lock series, backset, faceplate profile, door preparation, and function, so replacement latches should be matched to the existing lockset and door setup.

Replacement Door Latches for Knobs, Levers, Deadbolts & Locksets

Replacement door latches are the working mechanisms installed in the edge of a door that project a latchbolt or bolt into the strike when the door is closed. They are used with door knobs, levers, locksets, and deadbolts, and are commonly replaced when the original latch is worn, damaged, missing, or incompatible with a new trim set. The collection includes residential and commercial latch assemblies as well as series-specific replacement components.

Door knob latches include spring latches, deadlatches, passage latches, privacy latches, and keyed-entry replacement latches designed for compatible knob locksets. The visible knob and rosette are only part of the assembly; the latch in the door edge performs the actual latching action. Depending on the lock design, the latch may be fixed to one function or used across several functions within the same product family.

Door lever latches operate on the same basic principle but must match the lever set or lock series they are designed for. Residential tubular lever sets, commercial cylindrical locks, and other lock families can use different latch cases, faceplates, backsets, spindle arrangements, and mounting details. Commercial deadlatches may also include an auxiliary plunger that helps resist forced retraction when the latch is correctly aligned with the strike.

Replacement latch hardware is available with fixed or adjustable backsets, square-corner or radius-corner faceplates, drive-in collars, and other door-edge preparations. Compatibility depends on more than finish or appearance. Lock series, function, backset, faceplate dimensions, door preparation, bolt style, and manufacturer design can all determine whether a replacement latch will fit an existing opening. Deadbolt latch or bolt assemblies are likewise matched to the deadbolt series and door preparation.

The latch and strike work together when the door closes, but they are separate pieces of hardware. The latch is installed in the door edge while the strike is mounted to the frame to receive the latchbolt or deadbolt. Replacement strike plates, extended-lip strikes, deadbolt strikes, and related frame hardware are grouped separately so the correct frame component can be selected without mixing it with the latch mechanism itself.
