Choosing Baldwin Passage Door Knobs

Passage door knobs operate a latch from either side of the door but do not include a privacy or keyed locking function. They are commonly used on hallways, closets, pantries, laundry rooms, and other interior spaces where the door should stay latched closed without being locked. Baldwin offers passage hardware in round, ellipse, traditional, crystal, egg, colonial, classic, and other decorative designs.

For an existing door, begin with the mechanical preparation. Measure the backset from the edge of the door to the center of the bore, confirm door thickness, and check the latch faceplate and strike. The rosette footprint is also important if the old trim has left marks on the door. Matching these dimensions can reduce unnecessary drilling or refinishing.

Some Baldwin Estate listings may include knob pairs or decorative components rather than a complete tubular passage lockset. Read the included-components information carefully and determine whether a latch, rosettes, spindle, strike, or other hardware must be ordered separately. A pair of knobs by itself does not necessarily create a complete working passage set.

Once fit and included parts are confirmed, choose the knob profile and finish that coordinate with nearby privacy, entry, or dummy hardware.
