Choosing HES Electric Strikes and Accessories

HES electric strikes are used to release a latch electrically while allowing the lockset and door hardware to remain part of the controlled opening. Selection begins with the lock or latch type, frame material and preparation, door handing, required faceplate or keeper arrangement, and the electrical behavior needed for the access-control system. The correct strike must work mechanically with the latch and electrically with the control system.

Strike bodies, faceplates, keeper shims, filler plates, lip extensions, trim adapters, and other accessories are model-specific. The HES 1006 family, for example, uses accessories that are intended to adapt that strike to particular frame and latch conditions. Confirm the strike series and the exact frame preparation before choosing a faceplate or adapter.

Voltage and electrical configuration matter when replacing solenoids or complete electric strikes. Confirm the required input voltage, current requirements, fail-safe or fail-secure operation where applicable, monitoring options, and the power supply or access-control panel that will operate the strike. A replacement solenoid should be matched to the exact strike family and electrical specification.

Latch-bolt monitoring and latch-bolt strike monitoring options can provide status information to an access-control system, but the exact feature set varies by model. If monitoring is required, verify that the selected strike body and option support the signal needed by the project and that the wiring and control equipment are designed to use it.

Electrified openings can be affected by egress, accessibility, fire-rating, and local code requirements. Use HES product documentation and the requirements of the complete opening to verify the strike, lock, frame preparation, power, monitoring, and release method. For repair work, identify the existing strike series before selecting a solenoid, plate, shim, or other service component.
