Strike Plates

Strike plates are frame-mounted door hardware that receive a latch bolt, deadbolt, lock bolt, or other locking component when a door closes. They are used with residential and commercial locksets, door knobs, levers, deadbolts, exit hardware, and replacement door hardware. Strike plate configurations include latch strikes, deadbolt strikes, full-lip strikes, T-strikes, extended-lip strikes, ANSI and ASA-style commercial strikes, dust-box strikes, and specialty frame hardware. Designs vary by plate dimensions, opening size, lip length, corner profile, mounting-hole spacing, frame preparation, latch or bolt configuration, and finish family.

Strike Plates for Door Latches, Deadbolts, and Door Frames

Strike plates are mounted to the door frame where the latch bolt, deadbolt, or other locking component enters when the door closes. The strike provides the frame-side opening for the lock hardware and forms part of the relationship between the door, latch, lock, and frame.

Latch strike plates are commonly paired with the latch mechanisms used by door knobs, door levers, and other locksets. The opening in the strike receives the latch bolt as the door closes. Strike shape, lip length, plate dimensions, corner profile, and mounting-hole arrangement vary with the individual door latch and frame preparation.

Deadbolt strike plates receive the extended deadbolt bolt on the frame side of the opening. They appear in residential, commercial, decorative, and heavy-duty lock families and can use standard plates, full-lip designs, security-style strikes, dust boxes, or other configurations. They form part of the frame-side hardware used with deadbolts.

Full-lip strike plates extend around the edge of the frame opening, while T-strikes use a narrower plate profile commonly found with residential and commercial latch hardware. Extended-lip strikes project farther from the frame and are available in different lip lengths for door and frame configurations where additional clearance is part of the strike design.

Commercial strike hardware includes ANSI-style and ASA-style configurations along with strikes used with cylindrical locks, deadbolts, exit devices, and other commercial door hardware. Commercial designs vary in overall plate dimensions, opening shape, screw pattern, lip length, and compatibility with the associated lock or latch.

Dust boxes and dust cups sit behind or around the strike opening in selected door preparations. These components provide a finished cavity for the latch or deadbolt opening and appear with both residential and commercial strike arrangements.

Strike plates are produced with square corners, radius corners, round profiles, rectangular plates, extended lips, offset openings, and other shapes. Individual designs also differ by overall length and width, opening dimensions, screw spacing, mounting pattern, frame type, and the latch or bolt they are designed to receive.

Replacement and specialty strike hardware spans latch strikes, deadbolt strikes, ball-catch strikes, security strikes, commercial strikes, dust-box components, and other frame-mounted door hardware. The specific dimensions and opening configuration vary with the lockset, latch, deadbolt, door preparation, and frame arrangement.
