Start with room size and the available ceiling space. Blade span affects both scale and air circulation, while ceiling height influences whether a standard downrod, shorter mounting configuration, or longer downrod is appropriate. Check clearances from walls, cabinets, beams, lighting, and other nearby obstructions using the requirements for the exact fan.

Mounting and control options vary widely. Some fans include a handheld remote or wall control, while selected models add Wi-Fi or app-based operation. Verify which controls are included, whether additional receivers or accessories are required, and how the fan is intended to be wired. Smart features should be confirmed for the individual model rather than assumed across the collection.

Lighting is another major difference between ceiling fans. Some models have no light, some accept a compatible light kit, and others include integrated LED or multi-light assemblies. Review light output, color temperature, dimming compatibility, replaceable-lamp requirements, and whether the light can be controlled separately from the fan when those features matter to the room.
