Choosing Flat Linear Cabinet Lights

Flat linear cabinet lights are designed for installations where a slim fixture can illuminate counters, shelves, displays, work areas, and other surfaces without the visual bulk of a larger light. Their low-profile shape makes them useful beneath upper cabinets and in other locations where fixture depth and clearance matter. Start by measuring the available mounting space and the length of the area you want to illuminate.

Voltage is a critical compatibility point. Fixtures in this collection include 12-volt and 24-volt models, and the light must be paired with a compatible power supply, driver, wiring system, and controls. Do not mix voltage families unless the specific components are designed for that purpose. When several fixtures share one power source, total the connected load and compare it with the rated capacity of the driver or power supply.

Fixture length and lumen output determine how much of the work surface is covered and how bright it will appear. Short fixtures can fill small spaces or supplement a larger layout, while longer fixtures can provide more continuous coverage. Compare standard, high-output, higher-output, and accent-output versions by their product specifications rather than assuming that fixtures of similar length produce the same amount of light.

Color temperature, switching, and dimming also affect the finished installation. Choose a color temperature that coordinates with nearby lighting and surfaces, and verify that any dimmer, switch, sensor, or control is compatible with the fixture and power system. For continuous runs or closely spaced fixtures, confirm the required connectors, lead wires, and accessories before installation.

Before ordering, review mounting orientation, wire-routing needs, connection method, and any location or enclosure requirements listed for the individual fixture. Low-voltage lighting still requires a properly planned electrical system, and permanent installations should follow the manufacturer's instructions and applicable electrical requirements.
