Choosing Emtek Pocket Door Hardware

Emtek pocket door hardware includes several functions for sliding doors that retract into wall pockets. Passage hardware is used where no privacy lock is needed, privacy hardware adds interior locking for rooms such as bathrooms or bedrooms, keyed models provide keyed locking where the application calls for it, and dummy trims can provide a finished appearance without an operating lock. Edge pulls help retrieve a door from inside the pocket.

Preparation is especially important with pocket door hardware because lock bodies and flush trim are often recessed into the door. Compare the required door-edge mortise, face cutout, overall trim height and width, door thickness, and any backset or lock-body dimensions listed for the exact product. A replacement lock should be compared directly with the existing cutout rather than assumed to fit because the outside dimensions look similar.

Privacy and keyed pocket door locks use different internal mechanisms and should be selected according to the room and access needs. Confirm how the lock is operated from each side of the door, whether an emergency release is provided for a privacy function, and what strike or jamb preparation is required. For any opening with special egress, accessibility, security, or life-safety requirements, verify that the selected hardware is appropriate for the complete application.

Edge pulls are separate from many pocket door locksets and are mounted in the door edge so the user can pull a fully recessed door back out of the pocket. Check edge-pull dimensions, required mortise, projection when extended, and finish. If combining an edge pull with a lock or flush pull, make sure the components do not interfere with one another inside the limited door-edge space.

After function and preparation are confirmed, compare trim shape and finish with other Emtek hardware in the room.
