Electric Strikes

Electric strikes provide electrically controlled release at the door frame so compatible latch or lock hardware can be released as part of an access-control system. This collection includes electric strike bodies along with faceplates, spacer plates, shims, mounting kits, and related accessories for commercial and controlled-entry openings.

Before ordering, compare the lock or latch type, frame preparation, faceplate dimensions, voltage and current requirements, fail-secure or fail-safe operation, monitoring options, and the requirements of the specific opening. Electric strike compatibility varies by product, door and frame construction, and the locking hardware already installed.

Choosing an Electric Strike

An electric strike is installed in the door frame and works with compatible latch or lock hardware to provide electrically controlled release. Some products are complete strike assemblies, while others are faceplates, spacer plates, shims, mounting brackets, or conversion and installation accessories. Confirm whether the item is the strike body itself or a component intended for a particular strike series before ordering.

Lock and latch compatibility is one of the most important selection factors. Electric strikes can be designed for cylindrical locks, mortise locks, rim exit devices, or other specific latch arrangements, and the required faceplate and keeper geometry can differ. Compare the existing hardware, latch position, frame material, cutout dimensions, and door handing or swing conditions with the manufacturer's specifications for the selected strike.

Electrical requirements also vary. Check the listed operating voltage, current draw, AC or DC requirements, and whether the strike can be configured for fail-secure or fail-safe operation. In general, fail-secure hardware remains mechanically secure when power is removed, while fail-safe hardware releases when power is removed, but the appropriate configuration depends on the opening, access-control design, and applicable life-safety requirements.

Some electric strikes provide monitoring or signaling options that can report latch, keeper, or door status to compatible access-control equipment. If monitoring is required, confirm the exact switch functions and wiring provided by the specific model rather than assuming every strike in a series has the same features. Power supplies, controllers, readers, and other system components must also be electrically compatible with the selected hardware.

For fire-rated, egress, security, or other regulated openings, the complete door assembly and installed hardware must meet the requirements that apply to that opening. Do not select an electric strike based only on size or appearance. Verify the product's listings, lock compatibility, frame preparation, electrical configuration, and installation instructions, and use qualified access-control or door-hardware professionals when the application requires it.
