Door Stops

Door stops help limit door travel and protect walls, baseboards, floors, doors, and nearby hardware. This collection includes floor stops, baseboard stops, wall stops, hinge-pin stops, flexible stops, bumpers, holders, magnetic styles, and related door-stop hardware for residential and commercial openings.

Choose the mounting location and function first, then compare projection, dimensions, door swing, contact point, holding action if included, mounting surface, fasteners, and finish. Proper placement is essential so the door contacts the stop as intended without damaging trim, hardware, or surrounding surfaces.

Choosing Door Stops

Door stops are used to control door travel and reduce impact on walls, baseboards, floors, trim, and the door itself. Common formats include baseboard-mounted rigid and flexible stops, floor stops, hinge-pin stops, wall stops, dome stops, roller bumpers, magnetic stops, and products that also hold a door open. The best style depends on the door swing and where the opening can be stopped safely.

Placement is as important as the hardware style. A baseboard or wall stop should meet the door or knob at a suitable contact point without concentrating force on fragile trim. Floor stops can work where wall mounting is impractical, but their location should account for walking paths and door clearance. Hinge-pin stops attach at the hinge and should be checked for compatibility with the hinge and door geometry.

Stops with a hold-open function need additional consideration. Magnetic, hook, kickdown, or automatic-holder styles rely on alignment, mounting position, and adequate clearance to retain the door. A hold-open device should not be assumed suitable for a fire-rated or regulated opening unless the exact product and complete assembly are approved for that use.

For replacement work, measure the existing stop or holder, screw spacing, projection, and contact location. Even a small change in projection can alter where the door or lockset meets the stop. Also consider the strength and construction of the mounting surface and use the fasteners and installation method specified for the product.

After mounting and function are confirmed, select the material and finish that coordinate with the surrounding hardware. On low-mounted or concealed stops, durability and correct placement are often more important than an exact decorative match.
