Cabinet Backplates for Knobs, Pulls, and Drawer Hardware

Cabinet backplates are decorative plates installed behind cabinet knobs and pulls on kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities, drawers, built-ins, dressers, and furniture. They can create a larger decorative footprint around the hardware, protect the cabinet surface from repeated contact, or help cover wear marks, finish differences, and unused holes left by older hardware.

Backplates for cabinet knobs generally center around a single mounting point, while pull backplates must work with the pull's post spacing or screw locations. Before ordering, compare the backplate width and height with the existing hardware footprint and confirm that the mounting holes, post spacing, and cabinet surface provide enough clearance.

Cabinet knob backplates and pull backplates are available in rectangular, oval, round, square, decorative, traditional, transitional, and modern profiles. Common finish families include black, brass, bronze, chrome, nickel, pewter, and other coordinating cabinet-hardware finishes. A backplate can either match the knob or pull finish or intentionally provide contrast.

Backplates are especially useful in replacement projects when new knobs or pulls have a smaller base than the previous hardware or when old finish shadows remain visible on the cabinet face. They can also be used simply as a design element when a broader decorative plate is desired behind a knob or handle.
